What is Art by Eby and
the Lost Tale Treasury?
Hi, my name is Nathanael Eby and that's me up there. I've loved making art ever since I was a teeny, tiny, little boy. I've been paid for my art since high school and I have studied it as an undergrad. I made that skateboard after college, dreaming that I would someday make a full time art career out of the name Art by Eby. That dream wouldn't materialize until several years later when I finally found the idea and inspiration that would motivate me. I would make the Lost Tale Treasury.
I have always loved comics and art as a storytelling medium. The Lost Tale Treasury is a collection of one-page comics, each with their own story idea. They are open-ended, leaving further speculation for the audience to imagine and enjoy on their own. After creating each one page comic, I also make accompanying art to go with the story, including paintings, drawings, and more. Much of the art for each story may be purchased. I also hope to one day make a published collection of the Lost Tale Treasury with images of all its accompanying artwork. Please support me in this project and I hope you enjoy!
Artist Statement
Have you ever liked the idea for a story better than the story itself? Less can be more, fueling creativity and imagination better than if all the details were provided. My artwork focuses on storytelling but leaves room for speculation on the worlds and narratives they inhabit. It's the audience's charge to imagine what happens in these tales, and reflect on how art, genre, and other factors influence what is imagined. Each additional work of art that is tied into the original narrative can either provide answers or fuel new questions for the audience. I call this project the Lost Tale Treasury. I hope for it to be a tribute to the breadth of creativity and imagination in storytelling.
